CAN Calls for Enhanced Security at Worship Places in Niger

Following the abduction of an unknown number of worshippers at a mosque in Dekira town, Borgu Emirate, Niger State, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged for increased security at all places of worship, particularly during Juma’at and Sunday services. Most Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, the Chairman of CAN and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, made this appeal during a homily at St Michaels Catholic Cathedral in Minna, where prayers were held for the safe return of the kidnapped individuals.

Yohanna emphasized that attacks on any place of worship threaten the sanctity of all religious sites and the broader community. He called for a strong and permanent security presence in the Borgu Emirate to protect rural communities from abductions.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Federal and State Governments and security agencies but urged them to intensify their actions to secure the release of the abducted worshippers.
