Bandits Kill Zamfara College Director After N20m Ransom

Sani Bashar, the director of a college in Zamfara, was killed by bandits after his family paid a ransom of N20 million. Bashar was abducted alongside 14 others, including women and a mentally challenged person.

His younger brother, Hassan Sani, revealed that he spent 42 days in captivity, during which he endured severe torture, including a fractured leg. Despite the ransom payment, which included three motorcycles and N150,000 worth of call cards, Bashar was ultimately killed.

The family had previously faced bandit attacks, with Hassan recalling a similar incident in 2022. Ustaz Ibrahim Hamida, a close friend, described Bashar as a hardworking man and a serious farmer who sold assets to meet the ransom demands.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, with bandits continuing to impose heavy demands on families of victims.
