Bangkok Declares Disaster as Floodwaters Begin to Recede

Floodwaters in parts of Bangkok have begun to recede following days of torrential rain, with nearly 300 millimeters of rainfall recorded over a 48-hour period. In response to the severe flooding that affected major roads and residential areas, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration declared the capital a disaster-affected area.

Some residents remain trapped inside their homes, prompting the city to prepare 233 temporary shelters, which are currently accommodating about 4,200 individuals. Authorities are actively pumping water from canals and providing assistance to those impacted by the flooding.

Forecasts indicate the possibility of more thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain on the following Monday.
