Bank Manager Killed, Two Students Abducted at FUTO

On September 6, 2026, Mr Ossy, a branch manager of Polaris Bank, was shot dead by suspected kidnappers at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) in Imo State. He was reportedly at the university to drop off his children, who are students there, when armed assailants attacked.

While his children managed to escape, Mr Ossy was killed, and two female students were abducted during the incident. Rasheed Bolarinwa, the Head of Brand Management and Corporate Communication at Polaris Bank, confirmed Mr Ossy's death.

FUTO's Registrar, Chinonso Uba, also acknowledged the fatal shooting and the abduction of the students. The university is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and has urged the campus community to remain calm and report suspicious activities.

Following the incident, FUTO management met with Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, who promised increased security in the area. A planned student protest was canceled due to a university ban on rowdy gatherings.
