FUTO Students Abducted on Campus Regain Freedom

On 12 September 2026, the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) announced the release of two female students who had been abducted during a security incident on campus the previous Sunday. The confirmation came from the University Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu.

Following their release, the students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, visited the students at the Medical Centre to interact with them.

The university management expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies for their swift intervention, which facilitated the safe return of the students. Additionally, the university assured the community, including students, staff, and parents, that enhanced security measures are being implemented in collaboration with relevant security agencies across the campus.
