FUTO VC Seeks Enhanced Security After Student Abductions

On an emergency visit, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Dozie, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), met with Imo State Police Commissioner Audu Garba Bosso to address security concerns after the abduction of two students and the killing of Mr. Ossy Onuoha, a bank manager, on campus. Onuoha was shot by gunmen while escorting his children to school.

The police command's spokesperson, Henry Okoye, reported that the meeting focused on the security situation surrounding FUTO and nearby areas, including Ihiagwa, Eziobodo, Obinze, and Nekede, which have seen incidents of kidnapping and cult-related activities. Commissioner Bosso confirmed that security measures have been intensified in these areas and emphasized the importance of community engagement for crime prevention.

He directed various police units to prioritize the rescue of the abducted students and the apprehension of the perpetrators. The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude for the police's efforts and called for ongoing collaboration to enhance security around the university.
