BATN Foundation Launches Borehole to Combat Water Scarcity

The British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation has commissioned a 20,000-litre solar-powered borehole in Gidan Na-Ari Community, located in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State. This initiative addresses years of water scarcity, particularly impacting women and children who previously traveled several kilometers to fetch water from neighboring communities.
The new facility features five water dispensing points, a solar-powered pumping system, and a manual hand pump to ensure ongoing access to water. Abdulwahab Ya’u, the Village Head of Gidan Na-Ari, expressed that this intervention has significantly eased the burden on residents.
Oludare Odusanya, General Manager of BATN Foundation, emphasized that access to clean water is essential for rural community development, improving health, livelihoods, and productivity. The borehole was commissioned by the Jigawa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources on behalf of Governor Umar Namadi, who praised the foundation for its practical response to rural needs.
The project is part of BATN Foundation's broader rural development program focusing on community infrastructure and economic empowerment.
