Nigerian Navy Launches Solar Boreholes in Gombe Community

The Nigerian Navy inaugurated three solar-powered boreholes in Gombe to alleviate the acute water supply shortage faced by residents due to the state Water Board's failure to provide pipe-borne water. This project was implemented under the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, as part of the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, honoring Rear Admiral Shehu Usman Gombe (Rtd).

The Chief of Naval Staff was represented by Rear Admiral Mohammed Dahiru, Director of Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation. Each borehole is equipped with a 10,000-litre overhead water tank and perimeter fencing.

This initiative is part of the Nigerian Navy’s Civil-Military Cooperation program, which aims to support communities beyond traditional military roles. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, represented by Commissioner Shehu Yarima Abdullahi, praised the Navy for the project and urged community members to ensure proper utilization of the facilities.

Rear Admiral Shehu Gombe stated that two additional similar projects are planned for another area in Gombe LGA.
