Bauchi Assembly Moves to Rename State University

The Bauchi State House of Assembly is preparing to amend the 2024 law that renamed the state-owned university from SAZU to Sa'adu Zungur University. Hon.

Dr. Nasiru Ahmad, the chairman of the House Committee on Education and representative for Madara Constituency, made the call during a plenary session on Friday, presided over by Deputy Speaker Rt.

Hon. Jamilu Umar Dahiru.

Ahmad argued for the amendment, stating that naming the university without including the state in its title could lead to confusion, citing examples from other states and foreign universities. The proposal received unanimous support from assembly members, including major leaders like Hon.

Saleh Hodi Jibir and Hon. Habibu Umar, who expressed concerns about the removal of the state's name.

Hon. Auwal Hassan urged for the amendment to be passed without delay due to its importance.

The House concluded by mandating the education committee to report back within one week regarding the amendment.
