Bauchi Community Blames Flood on Unfinished Road Project

Residents of Bara community in Kirfi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, attribute a recent deadly flood to an unfinished road construction project. The flood, described as unprecedented, resulted in the loss of lives, including 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter Aisha Shuaibu, and left many homeless.

Dahiru Yuguda, a 64-year-old resident, reported that the floodwaters were improperly diverted due to incomplete work on the road, which failed to redirect water flow adequately. The community is now facing severe hardships, with families living without shelter and fearing further flooding.

Adamu Muhammad, a 30-year-old resident, expressed concern for vulnerable members of the community, including the elderly and young children. He noted that the flood destroyed essential resources, including water sources.

Community leaders are appealing for urgent government intervention to complete the road project and for humanitarian organizations to assist in rebuilding homes and providing shelter for affected families.
