Bauchi State Approves N1.024bn for Erosion Compensation

The Bauchi State government has approved the release of N1.024 billion as compensation for 321 individuals affected by an ongoing gully erosion control project along the Tsohon Kampani, Gwallagan, and Mayaka corridor. This initiative is part of a program supported by the World Bank aimed at enhancing agro-climatic resilience in semi-arid landscapes.
Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, the project coordinator for ACRES, announced this on Monday during a three-day stakeholder training focused on implementing the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).
The training aims to equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge for a transparent and inclusive compensation process. Governor Bala Abdulkadir Moham has also approved an additional 20% above the original property valuation to mitigate the effects of inflation.
The compensation process will be managed by a state compensation committee chaired by Alhaji Nuru Suleiman Adamu. The project is expected to benefit 213,000 people directly and indirectly, with construction already commenced on government-owned land.
