Bayelsa United Appoints Abdul Maikaba as New Coach

Bayelsa United has unveiled Abdul Maikaba as their new head coach, tasked with leading the club back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the next season following their relegation. The announcement was made by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr.

Peter Akp, during a ceremony that included the newly inaugurated interim management board led by Dr. Peter Singabel.

The government expressed its commitment to restoring Bayelsa United's status in the NPFL, emphasizing the importance of local talent development, with a goal of sourcing 70% of players from within Bayelsa State. Maikaba has signed a one-year contract that can be renewed based on performance.

He previously coached teams such as Wikki Tourists, Plateau United, Akwa United, Enyimba, and Kano Pillars. Maikaba pledged to introduce an attacking style of play and expressed his determination to build a team that the people of Bayelsa will be proud of.

The club plans to hold a pre-season tournament featuring 12 teams to identify and develop local talent.
