Bayo Adelabu Resigns as Minister of Power Ahead of 2027 Elections

Bayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, has officially resigned from his position, with the resignation taking effect on April 30, 2026. In his resignation letter, dated April 22, 2026, Adelabu stated that his decision was influenced by the need to concentrate on his gubernatorial ambitions in Oyo State for the 2027 elections.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve Nigeria and acknowledged the privilege of contributing to the development and reform of the power sector. Adelabu's resignation is intended to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities and ensure compliance with the amended Electoral Act of 2026.

Recently, he had apologized to the Nigerian public for ongoing power outages, which have caused significant hardship, especially during the dry season when electricity demand peaks. He assured citizens that measures were being implemented to improve electricity supply within the coming week.
