Baze University VC Advocates for Government Support

On Monday, Prof. Abiodun Gabriel Adeniyi, the Vice-Chancellor of Baze University in Abuja, urged the Nigerian government to provide greater support for private universities, highlighting their contribution to national human-capital development alongside public institutions. He made this statement during a visit from Education Correspondents, noting the significant financial pressures private universities face in delivering quality education, maintaining infrastructure, and adhering to regulatory standards.

Adeniyi emphasized that private universities should not be perceived solely as profit-making entities, citing the high costs associated with hiring qualified staff, acquiring facilities, and executing capital-intensive projects. He mentioned that graduates from private universities contribute to the same workforce as those from public institutions.

Adeniyi praised TETFund's initiatives to include private universities in research programs but called for more support to enhance the capacity of these institutions. He also discussed Baze University's strategic location, its commitment to maintaining a conducive learning environment, and plans to strengthen academic standards through international partnerships and external examiners.
