Benfica Negotiates to Hire Marco Silva as Head Coach
Benfica is in advanced discussions to appoint Marco Silva as their new head coach, following the departure of José Mourinho, who left the club after a short second spell. Silva, currently the head coach of Fulham, is nearing the end of his contract, which expires at Craven Cottage this month.
Fulham has offered Silva a contract renewal, but he has yet to accept it, leaving his future uncertain. Reports indicate that negotiations between Benfica and Silva have intensified recently, with the parties reportedly close to reaching an agreement for his return to Portuguese football.
The 48-year-old Silva joined Fulham in 2021 after managing Everton F.C., guiding the club back to the Premier League and finishing 11th last season, level on points with Chelsea. No official agreement has been confirmed, but talks are expected to continue as Benfica aims to finalize their managerial appointment ahead of the new season.
