Benue Assembly Proposes Free Snakebite Treatment Bill

The Benue State House of Assembly is taking steps to promote inclusive governance by holding public hearings on four proposed laws aimed at enhancing the state's growth. During a plenary session in Makurdi, Speaker Rt.

Hon. Alfred Aondoav Emberga emphasized the assembly's commitment to passing laws that reflect the real needs and expectations of the people of Benue.

One key proposal focuses on providing free treatment for snakebite victims in public hospitals, addressing a serious threat in rural areas, particularly among farmers. The bill aims to remove cost barriers and establish an organized response framework for managing snakebite cases.

Additionally, the assembly is considering a bill to create the Benue State Road Maintenance Agency (BENROMA) and reviewing legislation related to forestry, mining, and local government administration. Public hearings are designed to gather input from a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring that the eventual laws reflect the collective interests of the community.
