Rivers State Acquires Anti-Venom to Combat Snakebites

Rivers State is taking significant steps to combat snakebite emergencies by acquiring 500 doses of anti-venom, as disclosed by Dr. Chituru Adel, the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board.

This announcement was made during the first quarter review meeting of the primary health care task force held at the Government House in Port Harcourt. Dr.

Adel confirmed that the anti-venom will be distributed to primary health centers to effectively manage snakebite emergencies. Additionally, the board is collaborating with the Rivers State contributory health protection program to expand enrollment for pregnant women, ensuring they have access to antenatal care and free delivery services.

Future plans include extending free enrollment to school children. During the event, Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, highlighted the importance of fostering cooperation among health sector stakeholders and cautioned that a lack of trust could discourage residents from enrolling in health insurance schemes.
