Benue Medical Lecturers Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Pay

Medical lecturers from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) and the College of Health Sciences, Moshood Abiola University of Makurdi (MOUAM), have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike due to unpaid allowances and unresolved welfare concerns. The ultimatum was announced during a joint emergency congress held on June 29, 2026, by the Nigerian Medical and Dental Academies (NAMDA), the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), and the Association of Specialist Medical and Dental Academics (ASMEDA).

The union accused the university management of discontinuing the payment of consolidated academic tool allowances for qualified medical lecturers, describing the action as unfair. They demand the immediate implementation of the revised consolidated medical salary structure approved in January 2026, along with the payment of 24 months of outstanding arrears and the remittance of statutory pension deductions.

The ultimatum expires at 11:59 PM on July 19, 2026, with a warning that failure to meet these demands will lead to a comprehensive indefinite strike action.
