NYSC Member Dies After Vigilante Assault in Benue

Ben Agir, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, died after being allegedly assaulted by a vigilante group in Buruku Local Government Area, Benue State. The incident occurred during a night patrol in the Anibro settlement, where Agir was suspected of possessing a stolen motorcycle.

Reports indicate he was severely beaten, leading to critical injuries. He was subsequently taken to a police station and advised to rush to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite receiving urgent medical attention.

The Executive Chairman of Buruku LGA, Hon. Raymond Zege Aondoakura, condemned the assault, describing it as deeply disturbing and unacceptable, and emphasized that such acts violate human dignity and justice.

He assured that the suspects involved would be apprehended and prosecuted, warning the community against taking the law into their own hands. Aondoakura extended condolences to Agir's family and reaffirmed the administration's commitment to peace, security, and the rule of law.
