Corps Member Drowns During Picnic at Bayelsa Beach

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday at Okumbiribeleu Beach in Akassa, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa, where a corps member drowned during a picnic. According to sources, the corps member, identified as Dayo, went missing while swimming, prompting colleagues to raise an alarm.

Local divers initiated a search and rescue mission, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The body was discovered on Monday, washed ashore.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bayelsa, represented by Mr. Yvonn Hallidai Uri, confirmed the incident, describing it as sad.

The NYSC performed burial rites for the deceased at the request of the parents on the following day in Yenagoa. The police, represented by DSP Musa Moha, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

The area is known for its deep waters and strong currents, which pose risks to swimmers.
