Lawyer Defends Nnamdi Kanu's Imprisonment for Advocacy

Aloi Ejimakor, the special counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stated that Kanu is currently imprisoned for fighting for his people, not for allegedly purchasing a house in Kenya. Kanu is serving a life sentence following his arrest in June 2021 in Kenya and subsequent extraordinary rendition back to Nigeria.

Ejimakor has threatened legal action against anyone making defamatory remarks about Kanu, urging them to reconsider their statements. He emphasized that Kanu's imprisonment is a result of his advocacy for his people and not due to any alleged misconduct.

Kanu's life sentence was handed down after a trial on terrorism charges, and he is currently held at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.
