Mob Burns Man to Death Over Alleged Motorcycle Theft

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of an unidentified man who was allegedly attacked and set ablaze by a mob in Ikpe Ikot Akpan Village along the Ikot Ekpene–Uyo Road. The incident occurred around 7:05 am after the deceased was accused of attempting to steal a motorcycle owned by Idoroenyin Udo.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the motorcycle owner raised an alarm, leading to the suspect's pursuit and subsequent mob action. Instead of turning the suspect over to the police, the mob assaulted him and set him on fire, resulting in his death.

The police have condemned the act of jungle justice, emphasizing that individuals should not take the law into their own hands. Commissioner of Police Baba Azare has warned against such actions and stated that anyone involved in the mob action will face legal consequences.

The police urge the public to report criminal activities rather than resorting to mob violence.
