Mob Burns Two Suspected Robbers in Calabar Incident

On August 30, 2026, two suspected robbers were burned to death by a mob in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State, after they allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a resident. Eyewitness Bassey Etim reported that the suspects were attacked by an angry mob who accused them of being part of a robbery gang terrorizing the area.

Another resident, Effanga Effanga, condemned the mob's actions, emphasizing that no crime justifies such violence and urging the Nigeria Police Force to enhance security measures in the area. The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident, stating that police operatives were deployed to the scene after receiving reports of the mob action.

The two men were found burnt, and their bodies were evacuated for preservation. ASP Eitokpah condemned the act of jungle justice and called for the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
