Bingham University Promotes Dr. Okocha to Full Professor

Bingham University has officially promoted Dr. Desmond Onyemechi Okocha to the position of full Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media, with the promotion set to take effect on October 1, 2026.

This decision was endorsed by the university's governing council during its 72nd regular meeting held on March 12, 2026. Dr.

Okocha, who currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, has been recognized for his extensive work in digital media research and strategic communication. His academic profile includes a strong emphasis on teaching, research, and leadership roles both within the university system and outside academia.

Notably, he served as a special advisor on digital media strategy to the Governor of Abia State from 2020 to 2023. His contributions underscore the growing importance of digital communication in government policy and engagement.

Dr. Okocha's work has also included collaboration with major development organizations, such as the World Bank, and he has published extensively in the field of digital journalism.
