Bingham University Advocates Proactive Construction Strategies

During the 12th inaugural lecture at Bingham University, Vice Chancellor Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba highlighted the significance of advancing construction knowledge and practice in Nigeria. The lecture, delivered by Professor Yusuf Joe Gandu, a construction management expert, examined the theme of evolving construction systems and their implications on product flow and process management.

Gandu pointed out that despite the construction industry's critical contribution to Nigeria's economy, it faces constraints such as cost overruns, delays, and compromised quality, often referred to as the "devil's triangle." He criticized the sector's reliance on reactive management models that respond to problems only after they occur. To achieve optimal outcomes, Gandu advocated for a proactive approach that anticipates risks and integrates predictive mechanisms.

He introduced the Proactive Cost Management Model (PCMM), designed to improve cost forecasting, monitoring, and control throughout the project lifecycle, combining best practices and data-driven forecasting tools to enhance efficiency.
