Agbese Defends Wike Against Flood Blame in Abuja

Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, criticized attempts to blame Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for the recent flooding in Abuja. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Agbese stated that residents must also take responsibility for actions that exacerbate flooding.

He compared blaming Wike to the Israelites blaming Moses for leading them to the Promised Land, arguing that the criticism was unjust given the extensive infrastructure projects Wike has initiated. Agbese noted that since Wike took office, significant improvements have been made in roads, transportation, and drainage systems across Abuja and its satellite towns.

He mentioned that the FCT Administration has completed 221 kilometers of roads out of 317 kilometers awarded since the Tinubu administration began. Agbese also pointed out that flooding is a shared responsibility, particularly in a rapidly developing city like Abuja, where human activities can hinder drainage systems.

He specifically attributed some flooding issues to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by residents.
