APM Condemns Blockade of Peter Obi's Convoy in Benue

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) condemned the obstruction of the convoy of Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), during his visit to Benue State on Tuesday. In a statement from Anthony Ehilebo, Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication to Seyi Makinde, the APM described the action as “completely unacceptable and condemnable.” The statement referenced Section 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantees every citizen the freedom to move and reside anywhere in Nigeria, and Section 40, which ensures the right to assemble and associate freely.

The APM criticized the Benue State Government's claim that Obi did not seek prior permission for his visit, asserting that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to conduct legitimate activities without prior notice. They demanded that the Nigerian Police conduct a full-scale investigation into the incident and hold those responsible accountable to uphold democratic principles.
