Peter Obi's Benue convoy attacked; OK Movement pledges lawful response

Supporters backing Peter Obi report that his motorcade experienced an attack and blockade while conducting humanitarian activities in Benue State. This episode prompted responses from the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, the coalition organization supporting his Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential ticket with running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Drawing participants from the Obidient movement, Kwankwasiyya, the New Nigeria People's Party and the African Democratic Congress, this umbrella group has demanded investigations and sought accountability for those implicated. The OK Movement indicated that it deliberately refrained from responding in kind during the blockade, describing this restraint as reflecting responsible leadership rather than timidity.

According to National Director-General John Ughulu's multiple pronouncements, the organization's measured approach throughout the Benue episode reflected maturity and fidelity to nonviolent democratic practices. Nevertheless, the movement cautioned that any future moves to impede or threaten Obi's engagement would prompt deployment of what it termed lawful countermeasures necessary for safeguarding its supporters.

According to the OK Movement, Obi enjoys constitutional protections enabling him to tour and conduct political activities across all regions of Nigeria without facing roadblocks or threats. The organization characterized the blockade as troubling and raised alarms regarding political intimidation and thuggery as the 2027 general election cycle approaches.

The Nigeria Patriotic Youths Forum likewise criticized the incident, amplifying demands for formal examination. Statements from the OK Movement, released in Abuja and Owerri from September 10 onward, underscored that political violence should not gain acceptance throughout the campaign season.

The organization has not disclosed specific identities of perpetrators or precise details of how the convoy was intercepted, though it confirmed the episode took place in Yelwata during Obi's Benue State visit.
