NLC Condemns Blockage of Peter Obi's Convoy in Benue

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) condemned the reported blockage of Peter Obi’s convoy from entering Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Obi, the presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), aimed to visit the community to honor victims of a past massacre and sympathize with affected families.

NLC spokesperson Benson Upah expressed alarm over increasing political intolerance in Nigeria, stating that political violence is unhelpful and unacceptable in a multi-party democracy. He urged those fostering intolerance to cease their actions, emphasizing that Nigeria's democracy was achieved through significant sacrifices.

Upah called for politicians and their supporters to engage peacefully and focus on policies rather than hostility. He warned that political differences should not lead to violence or suppression of opposing views.

The NLC's statement comes as political activities ramp up ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Yelwata symbolizing the insecurity and suffering in Benue State.
