BOAN Praises Oyetola, NSC for Barge Operations Investigation

The Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) commended Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) for the successful conclusion of an investigation into barge operations in Nigeria.

This investigation was prompted by challenges faced by indigenous barge operators at Nigerian seaports. Nura Wagani, the Managing Director of NURWAG Integrated Services Ltd, spoke during an interview with the ministry's media team, highlighting the importance of the investigation in promoting fair competition and protecting local investments.

The investigation was initiated following allegations raised during the 2026 first quarter citizen stakeholder engagement and was part of the ministry's commitment to resolving operational bottlenecks affecting indigenous barge operators. BOAN expressed confidence that the outcomes of the investigation would strengthen local participation and enhance the efficiency of barge operations across Nigerian waterways.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the federal ministry, NSC, NPA, NIMASA, and NIWA to ensure safety, compliance, and growth in the sector.
