American Missionary Kevin Rideout Freed After 9 Months

Kevin Rideout, an American Christian missionary and pilot, was released after spending more than nine months in captivity in Niger. His organization, SIM International, confirmed his release in a statement on August 14, 2026, expressing gratitude for his safe return.

Rideout was abducted by three armed men outside his home in Niamey on October 21, 2025, and was likely transported to the Tillabéri region, known for militant violence. The identities of his captors remain unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

Reports indicated that he was under the protection of Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel during his travels. At the time of his release, the circumstances surrounding it were not disclosed.

Rideout had served in Niger for approximately 19 years and is expected to reunite with his wife, Krista, and their children. SIM International described his release as “incredibly good news” and requested privacy for the family during their reconnection.
