Court Reschedules ADC Leadership Case to September 28

A court in Abuja has postponed the hearing on a suit challenging the legitimacy of the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to September 28, after Justice Peter Lifu did not sit on the scheduled date. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, was initiated by Nafiu-Bala Gombe, an ADC member, who seeks to prevent Mark, former Osun State governor Ogbeni Aregbesola, and the party's interim National Working Committee from claiming to be the lawful leaders of the ADC.

Gombe argues that the process through which Mark and Aregbesola assumed their positions breached the ADC's constitution and the Electoral Act. He has named the ADC, Mark, Aregbesola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and former party National Chairman Ralph Nwosu as defendants.

The matter was previously set for hearing on pending applications, but the judge's absence led to the rescheduling. Justice Lifu had earlier dismissed applications from the ADC and Aregbesola to recuse himself, ordering them to pay N1 million in costs to Gombe.
