APC Members Resign in Bauchi Ahead of 2027 Elections

In Bauchi State, multiple prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resigned in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, amidst ongoing reconciliation efforts led by former Speaker Yakubu Dogara. Former Deputy Governor Sagir Saleh submitted his resignation on August 19, 2026, citing personal reasons.

Bala Jibrin, a two-time governorship aspirant and former National Auditor of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, resigned on August 31, 2026, criticizing the "brazen injustice" and imposition of candidates within the party. Sunusi Kunde also resigned on August 10, 2026, expressing gratitude to party officials.

These exits follow earlier resignations, including that of Bala Kashuri on May 21, 2026, and Tijjani Aliyu, who alleged predetermined results in the primaries. Senator Shehu Buba has defected to the Peoples Redemption Party.

APC State Publicity Secretary Shehu Dauda acknowledged political disagreements but downplayed the significance of the exits, stating that the reconciliation committee is still engaging with aggrieved members.
