Timipre Sylva Resigns from APC, Cites Leadership Issues

Timipre Sylva, the former governor of Bayelsa State and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter dated August 31, 2026. The letter was addressed to the APC chairman of Ward 4 in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Sylva, a founding member of the APC, expressed his dissatisfaction with the party's current leadership, alleging that it has strayed from the ideals upon which the party was established. He criticized the party's approach to politics, claiming it has weakened standards of decency and morality.

Sylva stated that his decision to resign followed extensive consultations with family, associates, colleagues, and sympathizers. His resignation is a significant political development in Bayelsa, considering his influential roles in both state and federal politics.
