Timipre Sylva Resigns from APC, Criticizes Tinubu's Leadership

Timipre Sylva, the former Governor of Bayelsa State and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter dated August 31, 2026. He addressed the letter to the APC Chairman of Ward 4 in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Sylva, a founding member of the APC, expressed his disappointment with the party's deviation from its founding ideals and criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration for failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians. He stated that he could no longer remain in a party that he believes operates under the principle that "all is fair in politics." Sylva indicated that he had consulted widely before making this decision and acknowledged the potential for increased scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission due to his resignation.

He expressed confidence that voters would seek change in the upcoming 2027 general elections, stating that he could not be part of a "floundering ship.".
