Gas Pipeline Explosion in Rivers State Injures Residents

An explosion occurred in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, following a gas pipeline incident on Thursday. The pipeline, reportedly belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), caught fire shortly after 2pm, leading to injuries among residents who fled the area.
Some injured individuals were taken to hospitals for emergency treatment. Dr Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, Executive Director of the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria), confirmed the explosion and stated that volunteers were deployed to assist with rescue efforts and verify reports.
He noted that the cause of the explosion was unclear, but preliminary reports indicated a pipeline rupture due to equipment failure at the NNPC Ltd. facility. YEAC-Nigeria has called for the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) to conduct a Joint Investigation Visit to determine the cause of the explosion.
As of the report, no fatalities had been confirmed, and officials from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were present at the scene.
