IGP Olatunji Disu Bans Police Officers from Social Media

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, issued a directive on June 22, 2026, prohibiting officers of the Nigeria Police Force from engaging in unauthorized social media activities on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. The circular addresses senior police authorities and expresses concern over the increasing trend of officers using these platforms for self-promotion and commercial activities.

Officers are warned against posting videos, conducting live sessions, or creating content while in uniform without prior written approval. The directive also prohibits accepting sponsorships or monetizing content related to police operations.

Violations may lead to disciplinary actions, including salary forfeiture, demotion, or dismissal. Senior officers are tasked with monitoring compliance, and a report detailing disciplinary measures taken is expected within 14 days.
