IGP Olatunji Disu Warns Against Police Video Circulation

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, cautioned content creators, social media users, and the public against the indiscriminate recording and circulation of police-related videos. He expressed concern that this trend undermines security operations and demoralizes police officers.

During an interaction session with crime correspondents in Abuja, Disu emphasized the importance of transparency but noted that recordings of police officers during routine operations should be contextualized. He warned against the circulation of old, manipulated videos that misrepresent recent events, as they could fuel misinformation and public anxiety.

Disu reiterated the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to accountability and respect for human rights while addressing misconduct among personnel. He assured that officers found guilty of wrongdoing would face disciplinary action.

The IGP also highlighted the increasing demands on police officers, who are working extended hours under challenging conditions to maintain public safety.
