Atiku, Obi Reject G-100's Single Candidate Proposal

The political camps of Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, and Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, have rejected the G-100 group's proposal for a single opposition candidate against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The G-100, led by Salihu Lukman, a former director-general of the Progressive Governors Forum, advocates for a united opposition front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and has proposed an August 31 summit to discuss this initiative.

However, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku's senior special assistant on public communication, stated that Atiku is focused on concrete policy proposals rather than opposition summits. Meanwhile, Obi, who is now the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), acknowledged G-100's initiative but disagreed with the necessity of a single candidate for defeating the incumbent.

The NDC's national spokesperson, Osa Director, referenced the 2015 election to argue that a coalition does not require all opposition parties to merge for success.
