G-100 Reschedules Opposition Summit to August 31, 2026

The G-100 has postponed its summit of opposition political parties from August 18 to August 31, 2026, to allow for additional consultations following the National Peace Summit. The group is urging former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State governor Peter Obi, who are the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress and the Nigeria Democratic Congress respectively, to collaborate and present a unified candidate against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.

The decision to reschedule was made after consultations with six participating opposition parties and members of the House minority caucus. The G-100 emphasized that a fragmented opposition would struggle to defeat Tinubu.

The intervening period is expected to refine proposals for the summit, which aims to foster cooperation among the parties despite existing differences. The group expressed confidence that the August 31 summit could yield significant outcomes for Nigeria's democracy.
