Police Confirm Attack on Peter Obi's Convoy in Benue

On Tuesday, a group of youths obstructed the convoy of Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, along the Gboko-Makurdi Expressway, hindering his journey to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area. Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Peter Orchia Aondongu, stated that officers had been assigned to secure Obi's movement during the incident.

The motive behind the blockade remains unclear, and an investigation is currently underway. Obi had arrived in Benue State earlier that morning to pay condolences to communities affected by a terrorist attack on June 13, 2025, which resulted in numerous casualties and displacements.

He also intended to distribute relief materials to affected families. Agile Bem Ordedoo, the Benue State NDC Publicity Secretary, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the blockade, a claim that APC Publicity Secretary Benedict Yaweh denied.

The police have not identified any individuals or groups responsible for the blockade, nor attributed it to any political organization. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
