Presidency Responds to Bribery Allegations Against Gbajabiamila

The Presidency has responded to bribery allegations against Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, who is implicated in a ₦400 million bribery scandal. The allegations were brought forth by Princ Adeniyi Adeyemi, who urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend Gbajabiamila to facilitate an independent investigation.

Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to the President, clarified that the allegations relate to a fraudulent operation orchestrated by Matthew Matthew, who allegedly posed as a director in a fictitious agency. Matthew's actions included unauthorized meetings with foreign diplomats and the use of forged documents.

Following a petition filed on October 17, 2025, security agencies intervened, leading to Matthew's arrest on October 27, 2025. Investigations revealed 34 separate bank accounts linked to fictitious agency names.

The police have filed eight counts against Matthew in the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the trial scheduled to commence on July 27. Onanuga cautioned the public against taking Adeyemi's claims at face value, emphasizing the need for due process.
