Presidency Clears Gbajabiamila of Fraud Allegations

The Presidency has issued a statement clearing Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, of allegations made by Adeniyi Matthew, who has been labeled an impostor. Matthew accused Gbajabiamila of involvement in a cash scandal, demanding N27.4 billion in grants and claiming to have collected N400 million through a proxy security appointment.

The allegations escalated to claims of an assassination attempt on Matthew's life, prompting calls for an independent investigation. The Presidency, represented by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, described Matthew's claims as fabrications from a serial con artist.

Investigations by security agencies revealed that Matthew had engaged in forgery, including the use of fake appointment letters and operating multiple bank accounts linked to fraudulent activities. Matthew has been arraigned in a Federal High Court in Abuja on eight counts of fraud, with the next hearing scheduled for July 27, 2025.

The Presidency urged the public not to rely on Matthew's allegations and to await the court's judgment.
