Finnish Court Sentences Simon Ekpa to Six Years for Terrorism

Simon Ekpa, a former Lahti municipal politician, has been sentenced to six years in prison by a Finnish court for terrorism-related offenses. The court found Ekpa guilty of participating in a terrorist group, inciting the public to commit crimes for terrorist purposes, engaging in serious tax fraud, and violating provisions of the Lawyers Act.

Ekpa, aged 40, was accused of seeking independence for the Biafra region in Nigeria through illegal means, using social media to gain political influence and exploit divisions within the separatist movement. The court's decision came after a lengthy trial spanning several sessions.

Ekpa was first arrested in December 2024 for alleged terrorist activities and incitement.
