Police Block Road to Amaechi’s Hometown for Burial

The police have allegedly blocked a section of the Omagwa road leading to Ubima, the hometown of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, as mourners and dignitaries arrive for the burial of his late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi. Chizi Enyi, the Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claimed in a video that the police barricaded the road, affecting movement towards Ubima for the burial scheduled for Saturday.

Enyi accused the police of collaborating with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to block access to the road due to a political gathering in Omagwa. He stated that the event could disrupt access to Ubima, where the funeral Mass is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Amaechi family residence.

Dame Mary Amaechi passed away at the age of 89, and the burial is expected to attract prominent political figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
