Wike Declares 2027 Election Over for Opposition Parties

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, declared on August 22 in Abuja that the 2027 general election is effectively concluded before it starts, asserting that the opposition in Nigeria, including prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar and Omoyele Sowore, lacks the necessary structure and strength to pose a serious challenge to President Bola Tinubu. Wike criticized the current state of opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal crises as evidence of their collapse.

He noted that some politicians have defected to smaller parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) merely to secure tickets rather than out of genuine political conviction. Wike emphasized that any claims of delegate support for these politicians are misleading, as he believes delegates are firmly aligned with the President.

He also mentioned that a meeting was held to reaffirm support for Tinubu and predicted that more political figures would align with the President in the coming weeks.
