Gowon Praises Buhari's Equitable Governance at Memorial

During a memorial event in Abuja marking the first anniversary of Muhammadu Buhari's death, former Head of State Yakubu Gowon commended Buhari for his equitable treatment of all regions in Nigeria during his presidency from 2015 to 2023. Gowon dismissed claims that Buhari favored the northern region, stating that he ensured every state was treated equally.

He credited Buhari for his commitment to the welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of their region. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also spoke at the event, highlighted Buhari's legacy of integrity and service, noting that he earned the trust of ordinary Nigerians.

Tinubu recounted visiting Buhari in the hospital during his final illness, emphasizing the care he received. The memorial also featured tributes from various leaders, including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, who urged political leaders to embody the values exemplified by Buhari.

The Muhammadu Buhari Foundation was mentioned as a means to preserve his legacy and encourage future generations.
