Buratai Commends Tinubu for Military Pay Increase

Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), the former Chief of Army Staff, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a new salary structure for the Armed Forces, describing it as a landmark investment in national security and troop welfare. In a statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday, Buratai noted that the salary increase reflects the President’s recognition of the sacrifices made by military personnel in defending Nigeria's territorial integrity.

The new salary structure, effective from September 1, 2026, includes a 30 percent increase for senior officers, 50 percent for mid-level officers, and 80 percent for junior personnel. Buratai emphasized the importance of prioritizing junior personnel, who are the majority on the frontlines against banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.

He stated that this decision would boost morale and strengthen commitment among the approximately 250,000 Armed Forces personnel, ultimately enhancing their dedication to national defense.
