Tinubu Approves Salary Increase for Armed Forces Personnel

Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a salary increase for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. This decision is seen as a significant commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of military personnel.

Dr. Matawalle noted that the salary review had been a priority since the current administration began, and he personally advocated for it.

The approved salary increases will range from 30% for officers above the rank of Colonel to 80% for personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant. The new pay structure will benefit approximately 250,000 personnel and will take effect from September 1, 2026.

Dr. Matawalle emphasized the importance of supporting military personnel engaged in combating security challenges in Nigeria, reiterating the government's commitment to troop welfare and modernization of the Armed Forces.
