Bus Driver Returns Over N400,000 Left by Passenger

Mr Onyekachi Ikpendu, a commercial bus driver, returned over N400,000 in cash that passenger Mrs Nkechi John inadvertently left in his vehicle. John, a trader, boarded the bus from Uzuakoli to the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal and forgot her bag containing the money and personal items at Ubani Market.

Upon realizing her loss, she rushed to the terminal, where Ikpendu had secured the cash and belongings, waiting for her return. In an interview, Ikpendu stated he had no intention of keeping the money, emphasizing his commitment to earning a living through honest labor.

He expressed that returning the money was important to him, believing that God rewards honesty. John thanked Ikpendu for his sincerity and commended Governor Alex Otti for the terminal's construction, which facilitated her recovery of the cash.

Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, praised Ikpendu's integrity, describing his actions as a positive example for others and indicative of a changing mindset among Abians.
